Daniel Adams chased his ex-girlfriend by vehicle along Old Arkana Road in October 2021, repeatedly rammed the car she was riding in, and caused a crash that killed Philip Patrick Laurie and seriously injured Danielle Lamphear.

At approximately 3:32 p.m. on October 6, 2021, Lamphear called 911 and told the dispatcher Adams had smashed into her car and was chasing her. As the call continued, she screamed that they were in a ditch and said she could not get away from him. The dispatcher heard her groaning in pain, followed by a male voice saying, “Danielle, are you alright?” Investigators later identified that voice as Adams.
Deputies traced the incident to a sequence that began at Adams’s residence at 5659 Old Arkana Road, where Adams and Lamphear had recently lived together. Adams told investigators the couple had broken up days earlier and Lamphear had packed her belongings to move out. When Lamphear arrived with Laurie in a blue Ford Focus, Adams got into his white Chevrolet Silverado 2500.
Physical evidence showed Adams performed a three-point turn in his yard and accelerated out of a secondary driveway at a high rate of speed, following the Ford northbound. Investigators documented at least three separate collisions over roughly five miles.
The first collision occurred near the transition from gravel to pavement on Old Arkana Road (CR 54), where tire marks showed Adams forced the Ford off the roadway. The second occurred near Glade Hill Lane, where witnesses said the truck followed the car at 60–70 mph. Neighbors reported hearing the vehicles approach at high speed before seeing them pass together.
A third witness driving southbound with his grandchildren told investigators the truck appeared to be pushing the car, briefly entered his lane, and forced him into a ditch to avoid a head-on collision.
The final collision occurred near 465 Old Arkana Road, where Adams struck the Ford from the rear at high speed. The impact sent both vehicles across the roadway. The truck entered a ditch and flipped before landing back on its wheels. The Ford traveled through a ditch, hit the edge of a driveway at 427 Old Arkana Road, launched into the air, and struck a tree.
The crash caused fatal injuries to Laurie and serious injuries to Lamphear. Adams’s driver’s license was suspended at the time.
Investigators relied on 911 audio, witness statements, physical evidence, and a post-Miranda interview with Adams to reconstruct the events. Prosecutors charged Adams with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and multiple counts of aggravated assault.
Adams later entered a negotiated guilty plea to manslaughter. The court sentenced him to 16 years in prison. He entered the Arkansas prison system on January 27, 2023, and is currently housed at the Wrightsville Unit. His earliest projected release date was January 22, 2025. He has been denied or deferred parole three times since 2024.
He has no disciplinary actions while in jail and has completed numerous program achievements and work assignments.
